According to the American Society of Civil Engineers transmission and distribution infrastructure in the United States is underfunded by $94 billion through 2020. Underfunded infrastructure replacement and increasing network complexity along with the usual challenges of safety, resiliency, reliability, regulation and cost pressures are driving change at utilities. The ability to quickly evaluate the effect of major or minor technical or physical changes to new and existing facilities will become increasingly important to optimizing material use, reducing construction or maintenance times and ensuring effective communication and collaboration between teams and external stakeholders.
