It’s been a while since anyone has talked about building-integrated photovoltaics in a serious way. Sure, there are some functioning products out there that make solar look like a part of a building. But they’re expensive and pretty limited.
The ones that are really attention-grabbing -- like solar windows, solar paints, or solar shingles -- are still largely faced with performance and cost problems.
But in steps Elon Musk, who chimed in on SolarCity’s conference call last week to say that the companies (soon to be combined) are now designing a solar roof. Details are scant, but it got the solar world buzzing.
