Racing to 2020: European AMI Policy, Deployment and Market Share Primer

The European Union‘s Third Energy Package is the latest round of EU energy market legislation. It requires Member States to guarantee that AMI system is beneficial for consumers in the long run. The EU aims to roll out smart meters and field communications to at least 80% of consumers in countries with net positive cost benefits analysis (CBA) by 2020. By 2020, GTM Research expects positive CBA EU countries to reach 60% penetration, well below their 80% goal.
