Research Note - The State of U.S. AMI Deployment

On October 6, 2016, the EIA released the final 2015 data for Form EIA-861. The data includes information on electric metering, peak load, electric purchases, sales, revenues, demand-side management programs, distributed generation capacity and net metering, among other metrics.

This research note uses this information as the basis for a variety of insights about the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) market, supplemented by data from the GTM Research Grid Edge Data Hub. The note concludes with an appendix that defines the meter types referenced in the note and includes the EIA-stated purpose and required respondents for Form EIA-861.

Paulina Tarrant is a Research Associate on the Grid Edge team at GTM Research. Prior to joining GTM, Paulina graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in Environmental Studies, focusing on Environmental and Energy Policy. During her undergraduate career, she co-chaired an annual multi-disciplinary, sustainable design conference at Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design. She has been a marketing and business development intern with Smarter Grid Solutions and a marketing intern for a renewable energy development and investment company in Munich, Germany.
