France, the Netherlands and Ireland: Western Europe’s Emerging Solar PV Markets

To date, the European solar PV market has been dominated by Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. As of the end of 2016, these four markets had delivered 81% of Europe’s total capacity. However, the picture is beginning to change.

In this brief, we assess the prospects for solar PV development in three of Western Europe’s key emerging markets: France, the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland.

Prior to joining GTM in 2017, he worked for Wood Mackenzie for over 5 years; initially as an analyst producing research on electricity markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa; and later as a Research Manager for Wood Mackenzie’s Energy Markets research product. In 2011, Tom graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Master’s degree in Mathematics. He also spent a year studying at the Humboldt University in Berlin.
