webinar: Grid Edge

The Power of Interoperability and Distributed Intelligence

Learn how interoperability is the key to helping utilities operate the grid more simply and cost-effectively and how Duke Energy and a coalition of six companies including Accenture, Ambient Corporation, Alstom Grid, Echelon Corporation, S&C Electric Company and Verizon, are demonstrating the interoperability of hardware, software and communications.

Historically, integration to interoperability has been expensive and time consuming. The electrical grid of the future will need to exchange data with different devices from many manufacturers locally in the field in order to achieve enhanced operational capabilities.  In addition, traditional utility technologies are often siloed as they utilize proprietary, prepackaged hardware, telecommunications and software platforms that backhaul data to a centralized hub.  This industry collaboration and evaluation of device interchangeability in the field is intended to further develop technology requirements to realize the benefits of interoperability.

During this webcast Duke and Accenture will explain:

  • The importance of interoperability and what it provides operationally
  • The concept of a field message bus and how it can enable the internet of things for a utility
  • The expansion planned for this initiative, including how utilities and their ecosystems can get involved.
