New York’s Reforming the Energy Vision: Empowering Utilities to Animate the DER Market

New York’s Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) proceeding is among the most progressive global efforts to redefine the role of the utility as an integrator and market operator for distributed energy resource (DERs).

This includes the creation of an incentive structure that offers new utility revenue streams and facilitates rich interactions with third-parties and customers. To access these revenue streams, utilities will create and implement Distribution System Implementation Plans (DSIPs) to transition to distribution system and service platform providers (DSPs) . New York envisions a vibrant, “animated” market of prosumers equipped with DER participating in energy markets to drive system and customer efficiency, reliability and resiliency, environmental, and consumer benefits.

This open and engaging discussion will touch on the specific technical needs and challenges as utilities morph into DSPs, and shine light on key areas of opportunity to move this market forward.
