Consolidated Edison’s smart grid deployment reflects a change in the way the industry is approaching smart grid deployments and provides a template for what it means to be a modern distribution utility. Join Con Ed and Silver Spring Networks as they present a case study that about their project that covers Grid Reliability, Renewables, Demand Response and Consumer Engagement. They will discuss the convergence of Smart Cities and IoT with the Smart Grid, as well as why they chose to build a real-time network to support all of the use cases facing modern utilities — in contrast with the old way of doing things, i.e. the notion of ‘good enough’ networks for AMI’s base use case. In addition, Con Ed and Silver Spring will discuss the complex technical challenges of deploying in dense Manhattan, as well as the rural expanses of Orange, Rockland and Westchester Counties— and the lessons that other utilities can learn from this deployment that is as complex as any location in the world.
