On September 12, Recurrent Energy announced it had signed a 129-megawatt (DC) power-purchase agreement with Peninsula Clean Energy. This brings the cumulative volume of utility PV driven by community choice aggregators now in development or operating to 1.2 gigawatts (DC).

With Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric, and other large California utilities having met their near-term renewable portfolio standard targets, community choice aggregators (CCAs) are positioned to represent up to 45 percent of California’s utility PV demand over the next five years. The total addressable market for CCAs is set to reach 3.9 gigawatts by 2022, but it is also expected to grow beyond that projection, as eight more CCAs are slated to launch in late 2017 or 2018.

In this new brief, we cover the total addressable market for CCAs, as well as addressing the upside and downside risks that CCAs face.
