In 2014, residential solar installations surpassed commercial solar installations in the U.S. for the first time. It clearly showed what developers and financiers have long known: scaling commercial solar is very difficult.

The lack of standardization makes installing solar for commercial and industrial applications more expensive and time-consuming. Procurement is also a very localized process.

So will the industry break free of these constraints?
