Recyclebank has run into some financing trouble along with some layoffs this week, according to sources. The firm will undergo an "aggressive realignment." This comes a few weeks after investor Trae Vassallo of Kleiner Perkins listed Recyclebank as a leading greentech contender. When asked about the layoffs, Recyclebank PR person Jeff Harse said [Shield your eyes now--Ed.],"I cannot go into detail on that, but what I can tell you is that our renewed focus will only enhance our ability to grow and build on our foundation. This restructuring is an effort to focus our business on the core areas that are making the most impact for our members and the communities in which they live."

Recyclebank lets consumers receive coupons and rewards for recycling, energy efficiency, and energy conservation. Vassallo called it a way to "get consumers aligned" with the goal of recycling. The firm claims it has four million members.
