Bill Clinton spoke last night at the Democratic National Convention.

It was a wonky speech, long on economics and healthcare but short on renewable energy issues, about which Clinton said:

The agreement the administration made with management, labor and environmental groups to double car mileage over the next few years is another good deal: it will cut your gas bill in half, make us more energy independent, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and add another 500,000 good jobs.

President Obama's "all of the above" energy plan is helping too -- the boom in oil and gas production combined with greater energy efficiency has driven oil imports to a near 20-year low and natural gas production to an all-time high. Renewable energy production has also doubled.

Clinton refers to new 54.5 mpg fuel efficiency standards. 

Republican Presidential candidate Romney’s campaign released a statement about the CAFE standards:

Gov. Romney opposes the extreme standards that President Obama has imposed, which will limit the choices available to American families. The president tells voters that his regulations will save them thousands of dollars at the pump, but always forgets to mention that the savings will be wiped out by having to pay thousands of dollars more upfront for unproven technology that they may not even want.
