A lot of factors go into calculations on the overall value of distributed energy: the value to society, to the transmission grid, to generators, and to the local distribution system.

Many experts are turning their attention to the distribution system, where customers, third-party energy providers and utilities meet. How do we allow solar, batteries and efficiency to thrive in a fair, efficient way? How do we find the right prices that encourage customer choice, but that don't burden the distribution system that everyone pays for?

That's what we're trying to answer in this week's podcast with Susan Tierney of the Analysis Group. We'll talk to Susan about her recent white paper on the different methods to value distributed energy resources on local grid.
