Top 10 Greentech Venture Fundings of 2008 (So Far)

We’ll be coming out with our Third Quarter Greentech Venture Summary next week.  So get ready because we probably won’t be seeing a record quarter like this third quarter again. In the meantime, here’s a rundown of the top VC deals of 2008 that will give you an advanced peek and some insight into our data. This list is remarkable; every deal is over $100 million and all of these deals are solar technologies in every flavor, except for the Range Fuels cellulosic ethanol-financing round.

It’s been a remarkable year for VC in Greentech so far, and the fourth quarter will be a harbinger, giving an indication of the strength of this investor sector in the face of difficult market forces. Solyndra is still looking for $350 million to finance its innovative CIGS capacity expansion. And we might yet see large rounds in the fourth quarter for the remaining thin-film solar firms like Heliovolt and Global Solar. Stay tuned for Greentech Media’s third quarter numbers and our fourth quarter VC forecast as well as our upcoming VC “Breakfast at Buck’s. Get all the details on VC funding, M&A, and IPOs in Greentech by subscribing to the Venture Power Report.
