Sounds Like EEStor Has Delayed Again

Although ultracapacitor manufacturer EEStor is highly secretive and few people outside the company can fully explain what it is up to, there are two things you can almost always count on the company to do.

One, to delay its product.

Two, to be highly entertaining.

This week, Richard Weir climbed out of his hidey hole to respond to a comment on the GM-Volt blog about the company’s status. Weir reiterated that the company had said earlier this year that it would come out with products by the end of the year, EEStor did not get the funding it was seeking. Therefore, it seems that the ultracapacitors will be delayed once again. Initially, they were due back in 2007.

According to the GM-Volt blog, Weir wrote:

As we have provided certified information on EEStor, Inc. this information certain indicates the excellent progress that we are making.

+As we stated in the beginning of 2008, properly funded EEStor, Inc. would anticipate in being in production status late in 2008.

The funding that we did receive was not sufficient to meet the production status late in 2008 but as identified by our last news release, EEStor, Inc. has made excellent progress with that level of funding.

That sounds like 2009 to me. Vague, yes, but simple math seems to indicate next year at best. In turn, that means those prototypes from Lockheed and the car from Zenn due this year will be delayed as well.

For those of you unfamiliar with EEStor, the company is extremely reclusive. It issues few press releases; although, Weir occasionally gives brief interviews. Kleiner, Perkins is an investor, but neither the firm nor the company acknowledge it. Former Dell chairman and high-tech guru Mort Topfer was on the board, jumped off and returned. People I’ve talked to who have seen EEStor’s labs (or have spoken to people who have seen the labs) say they are wonderful and state-of-the-art. However, they also tended to strongly doubt the company’s claims that its parts could power an electric car for hundreds of miles and recharge in a jiffy.

EEStore does have supporters. And other companies, albeit less secretive and cryptic ones, are working on ultracapacitors to help charge battery-powered cars. So you never know.

What I’d like to know is what the hell are they spending money on if they haven’t even developed a battery yet??? How much does barium cost anyway? Their lab hasn’t gotten any bigger, they’ve already purchased all of the lab equipment they need…guess they need more money for bigger homes and cars, keeping the wifeys in designer clothes will cost ya, guys!!!

The discussion of EEStor has gone into much greater depth and insight over here:  TheEEStory.com

The Halloween article says Zenn and EEStor are both still expecting to deliver an EESU in 2008 despite what is said in the gm-volt.com posting.  That time frame may be later than EEStor originally projected but it’s not later than Zenn projected.  Also, who says an occasional delay isn’t actually a good thing some times?  The most recent press release and subsequent interviews with Weir indicate he’s further a long as a result.

TYhe only thing we know for sure around here is that Mike Kanellos hasn’t a clue about anything EEStor does. THAT much, we know.

You’re always a big fan Kerry. If you click the links you’ll see I’ve been writing on these guys for years. I even interviewed Weir once before it became fashionable to ambush him on the phone.

In any event, they have to come out with something. We can all judge then.

    B. Good, that’s silly.  Lockheed Martin and lots of others don’t care one iota what the oil companies want.  If there were a way to eliminate or reduce dependence on oil, they’d be all over it.

Heck, in the current economic climate, does this sort of annoucement comes as a surprise? Things are tight all over, including R&D funds for questionable technology. I’m not suprised by this announcement.

But I do hope EESTOR churns out a marketable product soon. I’m getting tired of waiting.

I agree with B. Good. BIG OIL has the world in a stranglehold. This may not be by design, who knows, but they certainly wouldn’t be in favor of any competing technology. That’s just common sense.

If EESTOR does finally produce the product we expect (or if anybody does for that matter), certainly it will upset the balance of BIG OIL’s power. Lack of demand will cause the price of oil to go up which will make oil more expensive for other users of oil (lubricants, which EVs will still need, plastics, pavement, etc). Certainly, it would be a major game changer.

Heck, we need to change the game though. I’m willing to make sacrifices to make this happen!

Please do the simple math people.  They claim 52 Kwh recharge in 8 minutes.  Watts = amps x volts.  1 Kwh = 1000 Watts for 1 hour.  I’ll leave the rest up to you. This is like perpetual motion machine.  The funding lack is a plea for more suckers.  I know, BIG OIL bought up all the patent rights for the 200 mpg carburator in the 30’s.  Only carbs. dont burn gas at all, engines do.  Give me a bereak!

LOL, this is all too funny, I got a call today from the notorious B of http://www.theeestory.com. “B” for all of you that don’t know is the secret forum owner and has never revealed his identity.

I have been using the alias of goUSA on the open forums to try and get a reaction and well I guess I have succeeded to some part. Before that I was also known as XYMOX. I am what you would call one of their biggest skeptics. I don’t believe the pipe dream and I’m not a fan of “Physics because I say so”

Now that I have you attention.

I was flattered that “B” would actually take the time to call little old me up and ask if there was something I wanted to get off my chest. At first I resisted, but I conceded to voice the opinion that I think its nifty that whenever there is a naysayer on the board, they are summarily banned from the “OPEN FORUM”  The first time I was brought down was when I posted some personal address information on his site, fair enough, thats his rules and I’m not the owner, so see ya XYMOX.

This last time I was given the boot for only asking B to reveal his identity. Well what I was looking for was a reaction. You see I like reactions because they are fun, I don’t know, but that’s the way people are, we push buttons and things happen. So I got my phone call. At that point I then knew more than the rest something about this man,... what he sounded like.

And oddly enough I did happen to stumble upon an audio clip of one of my suspects Ian Clifford, CEO of Zenn Motorcars, well this sample was one of many but it is best online voice sample I have heard so far. that’s at
    http://www.zenncars.com/media/audio/evcast.mp3
Why did I suspect Ian, Well given his Internet Marketing background and being the one person in this world who has the most to gain from this scam, my focus was narrowed on him.
Well it didn’t take me to long after I closed my eyes and remembered who I was talking to, the voice of the caller and the voice of Ian Clifford are one and the same. I have a very good memory for audio as I am a trained musician and have what you could call an audio-graphic memory that rivaled the most studious contemporaries back in college, but enough of my self-admiration.

I have my answer, and I can’t say I’m happy because I’m not, I really wanted the technology they are promoting to be real, but given the deception and the gravity of the slippery tongue that is Ian Clifford, I know that it’s not more than a dog and pony show.

The world is no better off.

stevepulvia, this technology (and anything similar) has already been labeled “disruptive” by several in business commentators. Anyone with significant investment in oil will try to prevent the introduction of a competing technology just as companies with interests in gas tried to prevent Edison introducing the electric light to New York.
If you think about it, one very important effect of the way EEstor has approached the marketing of this technology is that it has elicited numerous skeptical comments. This denies any future patent challenger the argument that the technology in the EEstor device was already common knowledge in the field.

joey, your the one who needs to do some simple maths and learn some basic physics. 52 Kwh in 8 minutes is equivalent to 390 Kw supplied for 8 minutes, which at 400 Volts is 975 Amps. Your basic street corner 3 phase transformer handles several times that, so it is highly conceivable that a dedicated charging station could easily supply 52 Kwh in 8 minutes to several vehicles as once.
Alternatively charging at home drawing 30 Amps from a 110 Volt supply would require 15 hours and 45 minutes.

There has been so much hype about Eestor or “delay” in expectation, that it will be a real shock if the capacitor actually gets here with all its “rage and glory.”  However, I´m looking forward to that day.  LightEVs is promising a bicycle that will have a 100 mile range with a 5 lb eestor capacitor, now that´s a paradigm shift.

If this technology is for real, it would be a technology buster. The powers that be, don’t want that and maybe that’s why Eestor is being evasive about milestones. Don’t think this world is not controlled by oil and they will not lose that power at any cost. If this is not a hoax, it will may well rank as one of the greatest technological advancements in history. There’s plenty of untapped energy sources out there, but how do you contain and transport at a cost that would put oil out of business. Batteries are depleted because of chemical properties. Electricity could be stored just like oil and solar is unlimited. Also solar will be cheap soon but you can’t transport it. This could be so great it would upset the balance of power from the oil mongers to you and me. The victims of power corruption.

Hey joey, they’re talking about commercial charging when the proper infrastructure is in place, not from your 110 outlet. You figure it out. dfwguy, I know Lockheed Martin is big and the most important defense contractor in the US and that’s why they’re showing interest in this project. This technology could affect national security, but don’t put them in the same category as the oil industry, there’s no comparison. They’re the reason this country is at war (my opinion) and have you heard T. Boone Pickens is talking about the largest transfer of wealth in history. Do you think the recipients of that wealth aren’t supper powerful and corrupt? Is that silly? The powers that be don’t want to disrupt the apple cart.

    Mike K has reported accurately on Eestor;

Sure we’d all love Weir to produce a product that supports the patented claims, but anyone with 2 ounces of brain matter knows the delays and inability to find financing = high stink rating on the BS meter.

All talk re a “big oil conspiracy” = yapper-babble by tin-foil hatted nut jobs.
