2009 VC Investment in Greentech

VC deals announced in January and February have been percolating since late last year and the economic and investment doldrums have certainly slowed down the pace of VC investment in greentech.  Nevertheless, 2009 is off to a pretty good start with more than $500 million in Greentech VC investments in the first two months of the year.

    I guess it depends on what you define as a “pretty good start"l. If the rate stays the same, then we’re looking at a retreat to 2007 levels.

    Peter, yes and no.  $500M is still a good start considering the economy and the current caution of VC investors,
    The huge total for 2008 will probably go down as an anomaly - there were a number of off-the-chart investments in solar firms that distorted the total number.  I’m talking about the $500M for Solyndra, the $300M for Nanosolar and the $200M for MiaSole and SoloPower. 
    Making flat with 2007 not a bad result.
