Dave Edwards, the cleantech analyst that became a venture capitalist, is no longer with VantagePoint Venture Partners.

Edwards joined the firm as a partner in May 2008. Edwards came from Morgan Stanley and before that ThinkEquity. He emerged as one of the more visible analysts by becoming an early fan of both SunPower and First Solar.

He now works at his own firm called Edge Innovations Partners that will seek to accelerate green solutions to market. I found him through Linked In. (The Facebook search under his name was less conclusive but more amusing, turning up a few surly teens and a musician.) So if you see him at a conference with an unfamiliar badge, you know why.

VantagePoint has one of the more extensive greentech portfolios. Investments include Bridgelux (LEDs), Brightsource Energy (solar thermal), Solazyme (algae fuel), Ostara (wastewater to fertilizer) Mascoma (cellulosic ethanol) Tendril (energy management) Superbulbs (guess) and Tesla Motors (something to do with cars.). The firm has also attracted marquee venture partners like James Woolsey, former CIA director and Robert Kennedy, Jr.
