webinar: Grid Edge

Optimizing Grid Intelligence Using the Meter as a Sensor

In an effort to derive additional value from its smart grid project, Duke Energy is expanding its program to collect voltage and other power attribute information directly from the meter for use in distribution automation programs.

Having foundational intelligence at the edge can help maximize investment in the meter by utilizing its advanced sensor capabilities to provide ‘end-of-line’ voltage and other power attribute information for more accurate assessments to the customer and avoid specialized or secondary network infrastructure which drives up operational costs. By extending intelligence to the edge of the grid through a meter-as-a-sensor approach, Duke is leveraging their smart grid infrastructure for outage management/restoration and voltage optimization/monitoring.
