As senior vice president of power supply, Avery oversees the company’s generation, system planning, project development and electric procurement business unit operations. Avery also is responsible for the company’s smart grid policies and initiatives.

Prior to joining SDG&E, Avery was a consultant with R.J. Rudden Associates, one of the nation’s leading management and economic consulting firms specializing in energy and utility matters.  Avery has extensive experience in utility operations and management.  He was the chief executive officer of the electric and gas operations at Citizens Utilities Company, a multi-service organization that provided electric, gas, telecom, water and wastewater services in 21 states across the nation.  He also held various positions at American Electric Power.

Avery is a senior member of the Association of Energy Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and American Mensa. He has previously served on the board of directors of the California Power Exchange, Vermont Electric Power Company and R.J. Rudden Associates.

Avery is a graduate of the executive management program at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. and holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Manhattan College, N.Y. He is an expert in energy markets, electric production, transmission and distribution operations.

George Ashton, Chief Financial Officer, oversees the financial analysis and strategy. Additionally, he manages the SREC Portfolio team, a renewable energy commodities investment and trading desk, and the Project Finance group which originates and reviews solar project opportunities for investment.

Prior to Sol Systems, Mr. Ashton worked in the capital markets for more than 10 years. At Fannie Mae, he managed more than $20 billion in asset purchases and cultivated and developed business relationships with some of largest banks and investment firms in the country. In 2012, Mr. Ashton was appointed Treasurer of the Maryland Clean Energy Center (MCEC) by Governor O’Malley, and in 2014, he was named chair of the MCEC committee charged with studying the feasibility of a Green Bank in Maryland. In 2013, Mr. Ashton was named CFO of the Year by Washington Business Journal.

Sonnedix owns interest in over 1GW of assets across North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Prior to Sonnedix, Edgar was Head of Latin America at sPower, a leading U.S. solar IPP. Previous to that, he was Head of Power Markets & Strategy at Gestamp Solar, a multinational European solar energy company.

Mr. Arvizu has a background in technology start-ups, venture capital and biotechnology banking from Silicon Valley. He holds an MBA from Cornell University as a merit scholar and a BS in Finance from SDSU.

Eric Blank is a lawyer and economist who has worked on electric utility and clean energy issues for more than thirty years, ultimately developing and bringing online over 1,200 MW ($2 Billion) of wind and solar energy projects. Eric spent ten years during the 1990s running the energy work for Western Resource Advocates (WRA), a Colorado-based non-profit group that established regulatory and other policies to make it economically feasible for electric utilities in the inter-mountain west to promote clean energy technologies. In 1999, Eric left WRA to co-found Community Energy, a renewable energy marketing and development company, helping to grow it into a profitable 40-person business that was successfully sold in 2006 to Iberdrola Renewables, the largest owner and operator of wind energy facilities in the world.  While at Iberdrola, Eric served as an executive vice president leading US wind development, placing over 700 MW of new wind facilities into commercial operation over a three-year period. In 2009, Eric and his business partner re-purchased Community Energy and are now focusing on both utility-scale and community solar development. Since 2009, Community Energy has developed and built almost 600 MW of solar PV, and has a significant pipeline for further additional construction. Eric holds a Master’s degree in economics from the London School of Economics and a J.D. from Yale Law School.

Before assuming the role of Chief Operating Officer in June 2014, he served as Recurrent Energy’s Senior Vice President of Development for four years, where he oversaw all development activities. Prior to Recurrent Energy, David was President and CEO of UPC Solar, a Chicago-based solar PV developer with a pipeline of projects in Ontario, Canada and the United States.

His past experience includes Vice President of Sales and Marketing at SmartSignal Corporation (now a GE Company), where he negotiated turbine and power plant monitoring agreements with major US utilities; Executive Vice President at Acumence, a business intelligence software company; and Director of Sales at Wonderware Corporation, a leader in industrial automation software.

Prior to CODA, John was the CTO for Fleet Energy Company, a spinoff of the $2.1B Burt Fleet Services (BFS). John also worked at Xcel Energy in its Utility Innovations program, where he was responsible for overseeing vehicle-to-grid plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (V2G PHEV) projects, and served as program manager for the $100M SmartGridCity program and 1 MW/7.2 MWh wind integrated battery energy storage project. Earlier in his career, John spent several years in the automotive industry as a manufacturing quality engineer working for a major Tier 1 supplier to Ford, GM and Toyota, and managed telecommunications fiber backbone deployment programs for Qwest Communications, now known as CenturyLink.

He earned a M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Missouri and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University.

Mr. Burke is global marketing director of DuPont Photovoltaic Solutions, one of the leading materials providers to the solar energy industry. Mr. Burke founded Innovalight in 2005 and served as the president and CEO until August 2011, when DuPont acquired the company. His career has spanned research and development, product management, marketing, sales, general management and operations in major global organizations such as NEC, AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Agere Systems, and abroad in Germany, U.K., and Japan. Before founding Innovalight, Mr. Burke was the Sr. Vice President of Worldwide Sales for Oclaro and was a venture partner at Sevin Rosen Funds. He has received the Technology Pioneer Award for cleantech innovations from the World Economic Forum, and in 2010 the President of Ireland presented him with The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. Mr. Burke attended The London Business School and received his B.S. in physics from University College Dublin and his M.S. in physics from Trinity College Dublin.

Prior to transitioning to the acquisition side, Katie worked as a developer, project manager, and financial transaction manager at Boulder-based Main Street Power Company, and later in project finance at Tioga Energy.

Prior to joining Stem, she was a Managing Director in the commercial systems group at SunPower. Additionally, Karen led the key account efforts at SunPower with responsibility for Apple, Verizon, Macy’s and other Fortune 500 customers. Karen has consulted in utility-scale energy programs and spent 10 years at Honeywell Grid Solutions designing and delivering energy efficiency, demand response and smart metering programs. She currently serves as Treasurer on the board of directors of the Energy Storage Association ESA and holds a board seat on the SmartElectric Power Alliance (SEPA). Karen graduated from Bowdoin College with a BA in economics.

One of Suniva's first 20 employees, Matt has been instrumental in building Suniva's worldwide customer base since 2008, having led or managed the development of many of the company's key customer relationships. Under Matt's guidance, Suniva's sales organization has developed strategic commercial relationships with leading EPCs nationally and internationally, with major customers in North and South America, Asia, and Europe, and developed an industry-leading distribution channel.

In October, 2014, Matt was appointed to a two-year term with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee, chartered with improving export competitiveness of these sectors.

Ms. Frances Cleveland is President of Xanthus Consulting International, consulting on Smart Grid projects.  Her expertise has focused primarily on Smart Grid information interoperability standards, cyber security issues, and integration of systems, including distributed energy resources, electric vehicles, distribution automation, SCADA systems, and energy market operations. In California, she leads the Smart Inverter Working Group (SIWG), developing recommendations for DER smart inverter functions to update the CPUC’s Rule 21, including the communications requirements. In the IEC, she is convenor of IEC TC57 WG15 for IEC 62351 cybersecurity standards and is editor for WG17 of IEC 61850-7-420 information standards for DER.

Nick is the Vice President of Plant Operations and Engineering for Phoenix Solar US and is responsible for the design and performance of utility and commercial scale PV projects across the US.  He comes to Phoenix Solar from Applied Materials, where he was a Director of Field Operations in the Solar Business Group.  At Applied, Nick developed, sold and ramped the company’s first thin-film solar factories.  He also serves as an industry mentor to collegiate teams competing in the MIT Clean Energy Prize. 

Prior to Applied Materials Nick was an Infantry Captain in the United States Army and served on active duty in Kuwait and Bosnia-Herzegovina.  Nick received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and a holds a patent related to photovoltaic manufacturing technology. 

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Nick enjoys bicycling and camping with his wife and two young children.

Chris Diaz is a principal with Seminole Financial Services, LLC (SFS) a full-service national investment management / financial services organization. Mr. Diaz is responsible for the identification, evaluation, and negotiation of renewable energy finance transactions focusing on solar and wind projects between $2 million and $40 million in need of construction / interim financing; permanent debt financing; and tax credit equity. To date SFS has closed over $780 million in Construction and Permanent Financing for Renewable Energy projects, totaling 320+ MW as well as $150 million in ITC tax credit equity. Seminole Financial Services (SFS) provides construction financing; permanent debt financing; and tax credit equity for Renewable Energy Transactions as well as investment management services to various real estate investment vehicles. Currently, SFS manages over $330 million in commercial real estate and renewable energy assets nationwide, for the benefit of various public employee pension and retirement plans. Chris is a frequent National Speaker at industry conferences regarding Renewable Energy Finance and Energy Credits. Mr. Everest earlier served on EnergySolutions’ Audit and Nominating Committees; he presently serves on its Corporate Responsibilities Committee.

In 1997, Mr. Everest co-founded ISG Resources with private equity and served as its Chief Financial Officer until 2002, when the company was sold to Headwaters, Inc. For a year after the acquisition, Mr. Everest served as the Treasurer and Executive Vice President of Corporate Development for Headwaters, Inc. Mr. Everest has held other senior financial management positions with various energy and environmental firms since 1989. Mr. Everest holds a B.B.A. degree from Southern Methodist University and an M.B.A. from the University of Texas. Mr. Everest serves on several non-profit boards including the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City and the Road Home (Utah's largest homeless shelter).

Prior to RET, Mr. Fong was a Managing Director and Head of Real Estate Capital Markets at AEGON / Transamerica, where he led an acquisition team in a multi-billion dollar private equity platform and managed the private mortgage trading desk. He was responsible for both credit and structured finance innovations, working with Wall Street counterparties in bringing alternative real asset classes into mainstream finance solutions in order to lower the cost of capital. Mr. Grant originally joined FBR in 1997 and founded the equity research practice in energy, covering the IPP and non-utility generation sub-sectors. Prior to that role, Katherine was a policy advisor for Good Energies, Inc., a private investment company with a portfolio in clean energy technologies of nearly $6 billion. She co-directed the American Bioenergy Association, working with the states of Maryland and New Jersey to develop renewable portfolio standards. At the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Katherine led buildings research and then managed government relations in Washington, DC. Before going to work for CPS Energy, Tracy Idell Hamilton spent almost 15 years as a newspaper reporter, covering energy for the last three years of her career. CPS Energy hired her away to launch a blog that would allow the utility to tell its own story, including its New Energy Economy initiative, which has brought solar panel and component manufacturing to San Antonio, along with hundreds of jobs from other clean energy companies that have relocated there; its robust utility scale and rooftop solar programs, which have made it a leader in Texas and 6th in the nation for installed solar, and its success reducing the carbon intensity of its fleet, even as it adds generation. Her job has evolved to include assisting the executive team on communication strategies, especially surrounding their efforts to create a sustainable solar DG program that has the support of the local solar community.

Prior to joining CPS Energy, Hamilton spent nine years as a senior reporter for the San Antonio Express-News, covering energy, City Hall and politics. She earned her MS at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and a BA from Mills College.

Before joining CPF, Kristian was the Vice President of Project Finance and member of the founding team at Tioga Energy. Previously, Kristian worked as an Associate at ArcLight Capital Partners, an energy infrastructure-focused private equity investor. Prior to joining RMI, Owen was with Duke Energy for 11 years where he developed a broad base of experiences in the electric utility industry through a number of distinct leadership roles across the company. Dean has a proven executive management track record and over 20 years of experience driving sales and technological growth in the solar industry. Dean founded Shoals in 1996 with partners and in the year 2000, bought all their shares in the business and changed the course of Shoals from manufacturing for the automotive industry to the solar industry. While solar was in it’s infancy, Dean saw an opportunity to bring his extensive automotive knowledge and experience to a fledgling industry. Prior to the founding of Shoals, Dean worked in technical sales at multiple automotive tier one and tier two companies. Rex is also part of the adjunct faculty at Scottsdale Community College and has served on the board of the AZ Solar Center, a non-profit educational organization building awareness of renewable energy in Arizona.  He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Biola University and his MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management.  He and his wife have lived in Phoenix for 20 years and have 3 sons.
