Registration

8:30am-9:00am
Green Building Market Overview

Dan Geiger, Executive Director of U.S. Green Building Council, Northern California Chapter (USGBC-NCC)

9:00am-10:00am
Keynote: Energy Policy and Energy EfficiencyWind, solar and biomass are clean forms of energy than can offset greenhouse gas production. But the cleanest kilowatt is the one that is not used in the first place. Professor Sweeney will highlight the connection between policy initiatives, markets, human behavior and reduced energy consumption.

James Sweeney, Director, Precourt Institute for Energy Efficiency, Stanford University

10:00am–10:45am
Company Showcase I: Building Materials and ConstructionSelected start-ups discuss their products for reducing the massive (12 percent of U.S. total) amount of energy consumed in construction.

Kevin Surace, CEO, Serious Materials
Trevor Stout, CEO, Integrity Block
Patrick Govang, President, e2e Materials
Jack Bolick, CEO, Adura Technologies

10:45am–11:15am
Break

11:15am–12:00pm
Panel: How to Make Money in Green BuildingsSurveys show that LEED certified buildings achieve higher rents and valuations than conventional structures, contractors and developers remain skeptical about new materials, particularly in such a litigation-prone industry. VCs and entrepreneurs discuss how to break into and succeed in the somewhat conservative world of building construction and management.

Kevin Surace, CEO, Serious Materials
Jim Pettit, Partner, Navitas Capital
David Rosenberg, CEO, Hycrete
Sam Gabbita, Principal, Element Partners
Josh Becker, Partner, NewCycle Capital
Moderator: Michael Kanellos, Editor in Chief, Greentech Media

12:00pm - 12:15pm
Tools: Tracking Energy Consumption

Pat Bailey, Product Manager, AEC Sustainable Design at Autodesk

12:15pm–12:30pm
Net Zero Construction: Case StudiesMark Miller, CEO of Project Frog, will discuss the company's low-energy and net-zero energy structures as well as give an update on the Center for Science and Global Citizenship at the Watkinson School in Hartford, Connecticut, a 4,000 square foot net-zero building destined for a cold climate.

Mark Miller, CEO, Project Frog

12:30pm–1:30pm
Lunch

1:30pm–2:00pm
Afternoon Keynote: Buildings, Jobs and Climate ChangeHas the building market really crashed? An estimated 300 billion square feet of residential and commercial real estate will be built in China in the next 20 years, or about the same amount of created in the U.S. in the last three centuries. Trillions will be spent on retrofits in the U.S. A noted economist and entrepreneur, Porat will argue that electric buildings and new construction materials will lead to economic growth and a cleaner environment.

Marc Porat, Chairman of Serious Materials, CalStar Cement and ZETA Communities

2:00pm–2:45pm
Company Presentations: Building Management, Electronics and PowerWhen you stare up at the city skyline at night, you see a glittering array of lights. Systems engineers see a profligate waste of power. Start-ups and selected companies describe products and solutions for better managing energy consumption and producing power on site.

Paul Ciandrini, CEO, HydroPoint Data Systems
James Lee, CEO, Cimetrics
Peter Le Lievre, CEO, Chromasun
Noel Park, CEO, Lumiette

2:45pm–3:15pm

From Concept to Construction: What Works in Green BuildingArchitects, contractors, developers and most importantly owners face a bewildering array of choices when it comes to creating a "green" office building or residence. But what techniques and products actually reduce energy and water consumption and which ones are the most cost-effective? Panelists will share their notes from the field on design and engineering techniques to improve a building's profile.

Matt Golden, President, Founder & Chief Building Scientist, Sustainable Spaces
Phillip Williams, PE, and LEED AP, Vice President of Technical Systems and Sustainability, Webcor
Bruce King, Founder, Ecological Building Network
Lynn Olechnowicz, Perkins + Will
Pat Bailey, PE, Product Manager, Sustainable Design, Autodesk Inc.
Moderator: Barbara Heydorn, Director, Center of Excellence in Energy, SRI International

4:15pm–5:00pm
Navigating the StimulusPresident Obama signaled on the campaign trail that he wanted to invest in energy efficiency and he lived up to the promise with the $787 billion stimulus bill. In all, $65 billion in funding and tax credits goes to green energy and efficient. But the choices and opportunities remain bewildering: $5 billion for weatherization, $4.5 billion for transforming federal buildings into high performance green buildings and another $3.6 billion for efficiency and modernization of federal buildings. Lawyers and experts in circumnavigating federal legislation examine the impact and point out particular programs that might succeed.

Patrick Von Bargen, Quinn Gillespie & Associates
Josh Becker, New Cycle Capital
Michael Butler, Chairman and CEO, Cascadia Capital

5:00pm–7:00pm
Cocktail Reception and Clean Tech Open Entrepreneur ShowcaseBe sure to stop by The Clean Tech Open's Entrepreneur Showcase to learn more about Green Building and Energy Efficiency start-up companies that were finalists and winners in the Clean Tech Open business plan competition. These companies and their founders will be on-hand to show you their innovation and talk about their business--and you could discover a new product or service to integrate into your own facilities. From integrated solar PV roofing tiles to state of the art drilling technology for ground source heat pumps, this is one showcase you do not want to miss!
