VC Funding in Greentech

Nexant, a provider of smart grid software and clean energy systems, raised $43 million in funding from Oak Investment Partners, Intel Capital, TeleSoft Partners and Beacon.

Skymeter, a transport metering provider, closed a $1.45 million financing round.

Laser Light Engines, a maker of solid-state lighting, raised a $13 million Round B from Braemar Energy Ventures, Harris & Harris Group and Imax Corp.

Power Assure, a provider of data center optimization software, raised $1.5 million in VC funding from ABB. The company has raised over $18 million from Good Energies, Point Judith Capital and Draper Fisher Jurvetson.

Bio Architecture Lab’s algae biofuel development has received funding from Statoil.

Coda Automotive, an electric car and battery company selling a $45,000 EV, is planning to raise a $125 million Round D, according to VentureWire.  A first close on $60 million is expected shortly. The company previously raised over $130 million in VC funding and $394 million in capital as part of a JV with Lishen Power Battery.

Accio, a novel wind-energy firm that has attracted a total of $2 million in seed funding, grants, and research contracts, is now raising a Round A.

DwellGreen, a provider of $299 home performance evaluations and green retrofit project management completed an angel investment round of over $1 million.

M&A

Sharp acquired Recurrent Energy, a developer of solar energy projects, for ~$305 million in cash. Recurrent Energy has raised over $85 million from Hudson Clean Energy Partners, MDV and JEM Partners.

IPOs

Thermal power plant developer BrightSource Energy has reportedly hired Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to prepare for an IPO. The company has raised over $320 million in private equity funding from Alstom, CalPERS, VantagePoint, Morgan Stanley and DFJ.

Venture Fundraising

The CalCEF Clean Energy Angel Fund announced the final close of its premier fund with just under $11 million in committed capital from institutional and individual investors including the PCG Clean Energy & Technology Fund. The CalCEF Angel Fund invests in early-stage clean energy companies in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors.
